First published by Fantasy Flight Games in 2012, X-Wing is a tabletop game about recreating the exciting space battles and dogfights from the Star Wars universe. In X-Wing, players pilot a fleet of between three and eight spacecraft and attempt to outmaneuver their opponents, customizing their ships and plotting their flight and movement each round before letting it play out in a beautiful symphony of laser fire and torpedoes.
X-Wing is currently in its second edition* and is published by Atomic Mass Games, who took over publication of the game in 2020.
*Sort of – it may be more accurate to call this current era “2.5 edition” based on the changes AMG made after taking over the game.
Getting Started With X-Wing
Releases for X-Wing may have slowed, but the game is far from dead. That said, the slower pace of releases makes it easier than ever to jump into the game, as new players have plenty of time to grow acquainted with the rules and their ships. You can find our guide to getting started with X-Wing here.
Flying Solo: X-Wing Co-op and Solo Play
X-Wing has some pretty extensive game mods for co-op and solo play, both official – the Solo Game mode – and fan-made with Heroes of the Aturi Cluster. Our resident madman, BuffaloChicken, has done a ton of work both reviewing these and in the case of HotAC, helping playtest and develop. We’ve covered both in our series on solo play, Flying Solo.
