The Warhammer 40,000 October 2024 Balance Update Round-up

Games Workshop dropped a major update for Warhammer 40,000 this week, giving us updates for the game’s Core Rules, the Pariah Nexus Tournament Companion, a large number of FAQ/Errata documents, and a new Munitorum Field Manual which added points for Blood Angels and updated points across every faction. It’s a major update which will completely shift the game’s balance over the coming weeks and if you missed our coverage of the update, this recap post is for you.

The Core Rules & Pariah Nexus

First off, we have a video explaining the Core Rules changes and the update to the Tournament Companion:

These changes – specifically those to the Tournament Companion – have already been implemented in Tabletop Battles this week along with a host of other updates, so if you’ve got an event this weekend, keep that in mind.

You can find our written review of the Core Rules update here.

Faction Updates

In our usual fashion, we’ve broken the updates into superfactions, covering the changes, winners, and losers to the game’s Chaos, Imperium, Space Marines, and Xenos factions. You can find each rundown below:

On the whole, we’re looking forward to the post-update meta. The top factions took a significant hit – though some of our competitive crew are worried that it won’t be enough – while the game’s worst factions got a bump – though again, some are worried that it won’t be enough. With points updates, the biggest shifts are usually in the magnitude of “one unit”, or around 100 points per list. The big losers in this update were Adepta Sororitas, Thousand Sons, Drukhari, and Space Wolves, while the big winners were Orks, Genestealer Cults, Grey Knights, and Imperial/Chaos Knights. Almost everyone else had a mix of up and down tweaks.

And if you don’t have it yet, you should give Tabletop Battles a download. It’s by far the best way to track your games of Warhammer 40k, Age of Sigmar, Conquest, and Horus Heresy.
