The Best Year in Gaming: 1983 vs. 2000

Welcome back to our Best Year in Gaming March Madness bracket competition! Yesterday we looked at 2021 vs. 2022 and the competition was no joke. Ultimately our Patrons decided that Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok were more than enough to help put 2022 over its predecessor, and so 2022 moves on to lose to 1998 in the next round.

Result: 2022 Wins

Today we’re moving back a decade or two, looking at 1983 – one of the most important years in gaming – and 2000 – one of the strongest years in our competition.

VS.

I don’t think this is going to be a strong contest – 2000 was an incredible year for gaming, and it’s got a strong chance of taking on 1998 on the back of a few specific titles and a stellar year from the Dreamcast. 1983 has a lot of going on with gaming and some important milestones such as the release of the Nintendo Famicom, but from a gaming standpoint the titles weren’t that strong – as evinced by two laserdisc FMV titles being among the year’s best games.
