Start Competing: Leagues of Votann Tactics
The Votann are the newest range in Warhammer 40,000, released in late 9th edition. Dwarfs in Space is not a new concept for 40k, with the Squats featuring back in the earliest version of the game in Rogue Trader, but that faction met its end very early in the game’s life. Over in Necromunda there’s still Squats about, but their home is in the Leagues of Votann – a totally re-worked spin on the Space Dwarf concept, with a revamped aesthetic with a strong Anglo-Saxon inspiration. There’s a lot of the classic Warhammer Dwarf feel here – they’re tough and doughty and hold unbreakable grudges – but with a far-future sci-fi vibe that hews closer to the T’au Empire and Aeldari than to the Imperium from which they originated back in the Dark Age of Technology.
Faction Overview
As you might expect from a full new faction launch that only happened two years ago, the Votann range is not the broadest – there’s only a dozen datasheets, of which fully half are characters. What’s here is solid stuff though, with some solid vehicles, the heavy-duty Einhyr Hearthguard, the murderously shooty Brokhyr Thunderkyn, and more besides. Your units are relatively tough and durable and put out a brutal volume of shooting firepower and, in the case of Cthonian Beserks and Hearthguard, some punishing melee too. The biggest challenge for the Votann presently is merely working within the limits of their small range and the lack of a codex to encourage different playstyles, but hopefully 10th edition will bring them both new rules and a broader range soon.
