Interview Questions

Let’s start with the basics. What army are you bringing to the World Championships, and why did you choose them?

OBR.  They have been my primary faction over the past few years. It just felt right bringing my primary faction to this event.

Run us through your list a little bit. What made you choose this list, and why do you enjoy playing it?

Arkhan is simply my favorite character in the game, even if he isn’t the best. I love him and want to put him on the board.  The Mortek Crawlers do decent damage output from ranged and can hand out fights last.  Deathriders are fast and have a lot of attacks to take out things that get too close to the castle.  Mortek Guard protects the important bits as cheap screens.

What does the list do well against? What match-ups are you hoping to avoid?

This list likes to fight combat based armies like Slaves to darkness.  It wants to avoid armies that can turn off cavalry charge benefits or apply fight last easily.

Are there any battleplans that you’re hoping to avoid? Why?

Scorched earth.  OBR themselves don’t like spread out missions because they want to stay close together and cover as much stuff as possible in their defensive bubbles. scorched earth is the most spread out mission.

The World Championships of Warhammer isn’t the largest event ever, but it’s certainly the first of its kind. What was your road getting to the event like? Was it something you were aiming for?

I didn’t go into this year chasing down a Golden Ticket.  If I stumbled across one then it would be a happy bonus.  We had a team event come up in our local area and a couple buddies and I went.  We had a great time hanging out and had some amazing games.  In the end I was able to get a Golden ticket from the event.

How does it feel to be going to the event? Are you nervous? Excited? How the prep feel compare to LVO or other GTs?

I’m very excited for this event.  Players who I have never met will be there and I’m super excited to meet them and see how they all play.  Learn more info and increase my skill set.  For prep.  The way I look at it hasn’t changed much.  Spent a bit more time looking at the higher performing factions to make sure I have a bit of play into them.

How do you expect the competition to be different from other events? Is there anything you’re doing differently to prepare?

Everyone at this event is someone who has finished well at an event. These are people who know what their armies do and how to properly use them.  There is high odds of seeing several of the same factions that have done well.  So it’s going to be important to be prepared for that.

How do you expect you’ll do at the event? What’s a “good event” look like for you, record-wise?

I’ll try my hardest at this event.  Anything can happen with the level of players at the event.  The main goal is that despite whatever happens.  Just to have some really fun games.

You’ve been extremely consistent in playing death factions and specifically OBR. What’s the most fun you’ve had with the army and did it overlap with when they were best in the meta?

My favorite moment with OBR was right before their third edition book came out.  The first wave of regiments of renown had come out. Mortek crawlers had some special once per game shots.  The list I ran then was a bunch of weird stuff, but was my favorite list and had a bunch of unique combos and lines of play.

How do you feel about competitive play in this GHB season? How does the meta feel to you right now?

Competitive play is very fun. Meeting lots of new people who have similar interests. The Sigmar community is simply just amazing and everyone has been great to hang out with.  For the meta.  It feels kind of stale.  There’s a lot of ranged attacks running around so it’s something to always be worried about.  A couple of other factions are also seen a lot like Night Haunt. The games themselves are great, but seeing the same factions again and again feels a bit boring.

Do you miss Blizzard?

No.  I might get in trouble if we went down this rabbit hole of a topic.

Anything else you wanted to share with us?

The past few years have been an amazing time for growing as a player and I’m really excited to learn more and continue to grow moving into the future. I just want to thank everyone who has helped me get here over the years.  To everyone out there. Thank you all so much for the support and love you have shown!!!

Thanks again for taking the time to answer our questions. Good luck at the event!
