Kill Team UTC Weekend Recap and Preview: Jul 30 – Aug 05, 2024

The Unified Tournament Circuit is a regional circuit for Warhammer 40k and Age of Sigmar which covers the area between Virginia and Newfoundland. In case you missed our announcement, you can find it here.

You can find the full calendar of UTC events here.

This week we’re going to touch base on the weekly BCP stats before we head into the UTC recap. To give us some larger touch points before we zoom in on the happenings of the UTC!

We’ve got a much smaller weekend of competitive play than the last few months, with only 200+ players compared to the traditional 300-400. That does mean our dataset has some more pronounced spikes this week. A few factions that have traditionally suffered in recent weeks have spiked hard, looking at Veteran Guardsmen, Exaction Squad, and Corsair Voidscarred! However as a week without any larger events we can’t really know if these players dodged the bad matchups or other happenings. Another late edition stand out is Gellerpox, showing that the faction can have success outside of the few consistent players.

Last Weekend’s Events

Dice Dojo Summer Open, (Chicago, IL)

The Dice Dojo tournament returns with Chicago’s best competing over 4-rounds with 18 competitors!

  1. Nick M, VentureMinis, Veteran Guardsmen
  2. Elvin M, The Cthuwu Dynasty, Heirotek Circle
  3. Eric M, Hernkyn Yaegir

Head TO, and local competitor Rob P. had quite a bit to say about the local scene!:

“18 players battled it out at the Dice Dojo’s Summer Open. We expanded our tournament to four rounds to get in some extra Kill Team games and get a more definitive winner. Like our last open, we used all three Kill Team killzone types but we expanded our layout selection. Our players loved the asymmetric close quarters maps made by Squad Games. We also enjoyed the asymmetric Hazardous Areas maps made by Tabletop Warmasters. John G’s Blooded kill team won our Best Hobby award. We all appreciated the kitbashes and gory details that made this team pop off the tabletop. Eric M made the podium again but with the stubby hardy legs of the Hernkyn Yaegirs instead of the slick elegant legs of Corsairs. Elvin M brought Hierotek to a 2nd place finish, despite their recent nerf. Finally, Nick M continues their streak of Vet Guard dominance in our pocket of the Kill Team universe.”

B.Strat August Monthly KT 2024: Nestor’s Vibe, (New York)

While I was at GenCon this weekend, local player, and WCW24 competitor Nestor stepped up to help run the Brooklyn monthly. With 16-players, over 3-rounds and some wacky twists!

  1. Regan F, Dice Killaz, Legionary
  2. Calvin R, Kiddie Pool Alliance, Brood Brothers
  3. Joey C, The Board Authority, Mandrakes

Nestor stepped in to fill the TO gap and decided to run a less competitive tournament for his part. He added some twists, and it’s probably best to just let him talk about the tournament.

“We’ve been having regular monthly tournaments at the Brooklyn Strategist for 3 years now so for my second time TOing I wanted to mix it up a little and focus on pure fun. With my co-TO, the Compendium King Matt Opperman, we decided on a few silly buffs for everyone each round. First, everyone chose a Chaos God that gave them the Legionary marks to their entire team. Our one Legionary player got to choose an Intercession Chapter Tactic instead. This led to some crazy plays and cool stacking effects, like Nurgle marked Hearthkyn Salvagers’ Wrought Defense. Most people chose Slaanesh for the extra 1″ of movement. Second round the players chose a champion from their team to receive a Battle Honor specific to their team, and third round that champion got one piece of Rare Equipment specific to their team. While introducing narrative rules wasn’t the most original, it kept things tidy and easier to manage. Everyone appreciated these extra twists and plenty of big laughs and big moments were had.”
