The model for War Machine is one of the best sculpts that AMG has released for Marvel: Crisis Protocol. I wish he played a little bit better in-game, but that didn’t decrease my excitement for painting the model once he arrived in the mail. Here’s how I did it.
- I primed the model in black, which actually works out really well for this model because it has a pretty dark color palette.
- I did a first pass on all of the areas that were going to end up gray with GW Celestra Gray.
- It was a pretty quick and dirty paint job, so I went back to the other areas and cleaned them up with Pro Acryl Coal Black.
- My Badger Sotar 20/20 took care of this step and did a great job of feathering in some Pro Acryl Bright Warm Grey.
- I rotated back to the darker panels and did some edge highlighting with GW Stormvermin Fur.
- The base needed some attention and at this point, and the rest of the model was at a point where I could start working on it. I painted the exhaust directly from his boots with Pro Acryl Sky Blue over a light coat of Vallejo Game Color Glacier Blue. I brought the airbrush out for the other flames and sprayed them with Pro Acryl Fluorescent Orange and Pro Acryl Fluorescent Yellow.
- The actual suit was nearly done at this point, so I did some final edge highlighting on the lighter panels with Pro Acryl Bold Titanium White and Pro Acryl Bright Warm Gray on the darker areas of the model. I finished the model by lining everything with black ink.
