Goonhammer Talks Star Wars Shatterpoint: Adepticon 2025 Panel Reveals

Another Adepticon brought us another Atomic Mass Games preview panel, and there’s a lot of good stuff coming for Shatterpoint! We’re talking Organized Play kits, new releases, and a big character rebalance that will really shake things up.

Organized Play

Two new organized kits were announced. The first is a league kit meant for more casual, medium-term events like learning and escalation leagues, and the second is one meant for a more competitive single event. There is no overlap between the two kits, at least as shown, so stores will be able to mix and match kits and hand out prizes to suit their community.

Tom: This is the best announcement they have made. With the delivery of the first wave of organized kits, and these two coming down the pipe, it will hopefully get more stores involved.

Em/ McWhat: More prize support for local play is always welcome. I like that AMG emphasizes everyone getting stuff, not just winners.

Andrew/Wake: Couldn’t agree more.  It’s really great as a TO to be able to send players home with something cool just for coming to the event.  More of this, please, AMG!

Jefferson: I’m strictly a casual, at-home player, but as someone who used to run in-store events for a lot of different games, I love the fact that AMG is focusing on participation rather than just winning. Organized play should always be about fostering a community, so that “I don’t have anyone to play with” isn’t a barrier to entry for the game.

Matt: Letting everyone know they’ll get something cool just for showing up has been key to increasing local league turnout, so I love to see AMG doing it officially.

Character Card Previews

AMG showed off character cards coming in the All the Way and Deploy the Garrison squad packs, exciting fans of Rogue One everywhere. Some of our intrepid reporters may have come away from Adepticon with boxes in hand, so keep an eye out for our detailed coverage soon!

Em/ McWhat: Really hoping Andor looks better at a different angle and/or (lol) with a different paintjob. But I am possibly the most pro-Rogue One Shatterpoint contributor here at GH. There is absolutely no way I do not get this box along with the rest, and play Rogue One lists all year.

Tom: This is Rogue One getting a further out date than the Andor and Krennic box, which intrigues me. You have to spread the love and make me pay shipping twice.

Andrew/Wake: I agree with Em/McWhat; this is going to get windmill slammed onto my tables.  I’ve been dreaming of a Rogue One/Spectres premiere list since they announced the Spectres LAST year.  Thus far, I’ve been exclusively a Republic player, but the streak will break when these boxes come out!

I share the disappointment with Cassian’s sculpt; the fact that Jyn’s is much nicer does soften the blow a bit, but wow…what a boring and static pose for such a dynamic character!  I also really don’t care for Chirrut Imwe’s “twisting” pose from the This is Rogue One box and will be trying to figure out how to convert/reposition it into something that looks better to me.  I get the intention the sculptors were going for, but it just doesn’t quite work in my book.  Fortunately, the rest of the models look great and the rules for Chirrut and Baze that we received at Worlds make them look like they’re going to be a blast to play.  It’s a good time to join the Rebellion!

Jefferson: I won’t dispute McWhat’s claim to be our biggest Rogue One fan, but I will settle into the role of second biggest. I agree that the Cassian Andor model leaves a lot to be desired, it reminds me a bit of General Solo in that it looks stiff and posed. I may try to re-position the arms and head to get him closer to the card artwork, which I think looks fine.

Looking at what we can see of the cards, K2-SO looks particularly on-brand, I like how he seems designed to keep enemy models at bay so the other members of his squad can get on with what they’re doing. I’ll be interested to see what his stance card looks like.

And, as most of our contributors already know, I’m especially excited about the Deploy the Garrison pack. As a painter the Shore Troopers look like a lot of fun, and as a player, Krennic looks like he might be a little different to the other Imperial leaders we’ve seen – his ability to steal control of an objective, and to reduce the amount of momentum an opponent receives, look like they’ll be great for a more defensive play style.

Late-year Teases

The squad packs releasing in Winter 2025 and Spring 2026 were also shown, letting us check out painted models out of each pack. No rules as they’re still a long way out, but some exciting stuff nonetheless.

Tom: The deep cuts keep coming. While they had already announced Delta Squad, seeing them fully painted gets me hyped. I remember beating Republic Commando on Xbox in 2005 … Man, I am old.

Secure the Future and My Loyalty, and My Life Squad packs are a pleasant surprise. I enjoyed Ashoka, but understand why there is always blowback. Baylon is a fantastic character and became one of my favorites. There have to be rebel packs that have yet to be announced. We will have to wait for Ministravaganza this year to learn more.

The first thing that crossed my mind when I saw these was “a day late and a dollar short”. But Ashoka season 2 started production a few months ago, and my second thought was that AMG knows something we don’t. Ashoka Season Q2 2026 CONFIRMED! Also, now there is a good chance we will get some characters from Acolyte or some scoundrels from Skeleton Crew.

Em/ McWhat: Interesting that they continue to carefully avoid any characters from Episode 7-9 despite delving deeper and deeper into the greater Star Wars universe. I have painted SO MANY clones and stormtroopers it’s hard to get excited for more, but all these packs do look great. Terror From Below is ridiculous in the best possible way. I have to imagine they had a ton of fun working on those.

Andrew/Wake: Skeleton Crew was a good show, wasn’t it?  Good fun, that one.  Go watch it!

Delta Squad puts me squarely in the position of having to repaint my Republic Commandos, because I had painted two of them as two of Delta Squad, but that’s a nice enough problem to have- I can redo some armor markings to get a whole new box of choices!  Truth be told, I am not as excited about this box as I probably should be as a Republic player, because I don’t have any personal connection to the characters besides Scorch being an unrepentant villain in The Bad Batch (and as you might have guessed from my predilection for Republic and Rebels, I am not here for the villains…).  That said, more Republic options can only be a good thing.  Now where are my ARC troopers?  Give me Fives!

I love the look of the boxes from the Ahsoka show; zombies do nothing for me in any medium, but the Morgan Elsbeth model is awesome and I’m excited to get her, and Baylen Skoll’s box looks fantastic.  I’ll be interested to see what keywords that box has- they sort of worked alongside Elsbeth/Thrawn on the show, but not really?  More like they had some mutual objectives and were willing to tolerate each other.  I don’t know if that will make them Galactic Empire or Imperial Remnant or…

I snort-laughed out loud at the Terror from Below box.  I had totally forgotten that Quarren guy’s name was Nossor Ri (pronounced “no siree”)- this is relevant because his primary story beat is refusing to acknowledge the Mon Cala prince’s succession to the throne.  What a truly absurd TV show Clone Wars was sometimes.  The models all look great and I’ll be happy to add them to my pile of unpainted Separatists.

Jefferson: I am thrilled beyond belief that Baylan Skoll is making his way into the game. He and his apprentice were the most interesting characters in the Ahsoka series, so it will be nice to see their presence felt on the table top. I just wish I didn’t have to wait a whole year to get my hands on them.

I have to admit that I wasn’t originally planning on picking up the Terror from Below squad pack, but after hearing a bit more about how Riff Tamson (I had to google “clone wars shark guy” for the name, hah!) is going to work, I’m a lot more intrigued. And those droids look very impressive.

Matt: I am going to start playing Separatists just to hang out with Riff and Nossor Ri.

Terrain

Four new Outer Rim Terrain Packs were announced via the roadmap, but we were only shown the Outer Rim Outpost, which is based on things seen in the bank heist episode of Andor. Look out for more little creatures coming with terrain packs, as that’s both a team and community favorite.

Tom: Four packs announced for the Outer Rim, and the one they show does not seem to have any gantry lips for the current terrain sets. Either way, I am a sucker for terrain.

Em/ McWhat: More cute lil guys! Also someone send me a womprat from the speeder garage kit, please and thank you.

Andrew/Wake: Agreed, Tom!  I am the target audience.  I foresee a second Shatterpoint table in my future…

Jefferson: The piece we were shown looks okay, but I share Tom’s concern that it doesn’t appear to interact with the existing terrain – it would just sit out on its own. I would like to see more ways to interact with terrain in the game, maybe if this piece had a separate stance card to go with the cannon…

The titles for the other three terrain packs sound intriguing, I am an unrepentant fan of Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland, and these might get me a little closer to a table based on it.

Roadmap

The roadmap summary of the panel! There were a few things mentioned as coming that weren’t on the panel, like mission packs and specific tournament/league kits, but this is the bulk of what’s coming out between now and next year’s Adepticon.

Matt: A little light as AMG focuses on Legion’s hard plastic relaunch this year, but what we’re getting is extremely cool. Did you see the shark guy?

Balance

There will be a round of character balancing coming in May of 2025. The team was light on details, but they let us know that Mace Windu will be receiving buffs, going from 6 to 7 squad points and a rework of his Shatterpoint ability. Anakin Skywalker will be getting a ranged attack and the flexibility to use I’m Going to End This on a different target instead of the same model. Many other characters are getting buffed (Third and Fourth Sister were both mentioned), and there are a few nerfs to outliers coming with Vader, Jedi Hunter being mentioned by name.

Em/ McWhat: In Marvel: Crisis Protocol, AMG has shown that they take a long view on rebalancing released models. As expected, they’re doing the same with Shatterpoint. Again extrapolating from MCP, most of those rebalances really breathed new life into a number of models. Looking forward to the same for Shatterpoint soon. As an Anakin apologist, I look forward to him getting a fresh coat of polish. I also really like Mace Windu but feel hamstrung playing him, so I look forward to that change as well.

Tom: Rebalancing is excellent. Bringing up less-used characters and tweaking those that need it will make both tournament and casual more intriguing.

Andrew/Wake: Defenders of the Republic rejoice!  I am so excited to feel like I have more options as a “Clone Wars light side” player.  I am also hoping to see some gentle nerfs to overperforming units like Iden Versio, Gideon Hask, and of course Vader.  I do worry that AMG may confuse “played a lot by their faction” with “overtuned” in cases like the ARF troopers (who are very good, but are ubiquitous at least as much because of how bad the other clone units are rather than being too strong themselves) or the two Super Tactical Droids, but the company has generally earned the benefit of the doubt in my book.  My #1 hail mary longshot hope is that Vader, Jedi Hunter will lose the Galactic Republic tag, which he absolutely never should have had in the first place.  I get that it was necessary at the time the model was released so that he would have some stuff to synergize with, but that time is past now and the Empire is well-established as its own faction.  Please, let’s have no more running Darth Vader alongside members of the Jedi Order he hunted to extinction just to roll more dice with lightsabers.  We have a whole group of Inquisitors for that!

Jefferson: I’m all for making adjustments to overpowered (and underpowered) units – if AMG is going to focus more on community building, then having a wide range of viable strike teams is important. There is nothing more soul-crushing to a new player than showing up for an event and playing against a bunch of minor variations on the same thing. As Andrew has mentioned, hopefully they’re looking at the big picture and not just “this one unit is getting played too much, let’s reign that in.”

Another worry is that they will need to be very good about getting the rebalanced stat cards out there, especially for new players who may not be as “plugged in” to the game’s information and discussion sources. Imagine showing up for your first in-store event, not knowing that one or more of the models you were looking forward to playing with have been rebalanced (or even what “rebalance” means). Remaining new player friendly is critical to the long term survival of a game like Shatterpoint.
