Welcome back folks. On this week for Competitive Innovations another quiet week with a medium sized 42 player GT in British Columbia, Canada and a small Invitational in Pennsylvania at Castle-Con! Our headlining lists are very interesting so check it out!

Thoughts

Whew! For a bunch of pipsqueaks these are some intimidating lists.

Both lists have access to teleports, which is huge for Head on Collision since taking your opponent’s objective is worth more. Thanquol has Skitterleap and Skaven have the Gnawholes. Gitz have Great green Hand of Gork. So whoever can get behind the other and take the point is going to be able to pull ahead.

Head On Collision tends to come down to brute strength, obviously and it’s pretty close here. Troggoths hit well above their weight class, while Skaven are no slouches with Thanquol, the Krondspine and Warpgnaw Verminlord.

Ultimately the Skaven manage to pull ahead with a win.

Archetype

Thanquol and the Warpgnaw Verminlord lead Warp Lightning Cannons and a Krondspine.

Thoughts

I love Skaven lists, it seems like every one I see is different from the last. Thanquol is almost a gimee, expensive as he is he’s one of the best casters in the entire game and can support his army in melee, too. With Skitterleap he can send the Verminlord anywhere it needs to go.

The Verminlord does 4 Rend -2 Damage 5 attacks (Damage 6 with flaming weapon!) so between that and its built in deep strike, there’s almost nowhere to hide from a terrible force.

Wrapping it up we got the Warp Lightning Cannons for some long range damage, the Clanrats for tarpitting and objectives, and the Krondspine as the de jure beat stick.

• 3rd – Erik Armstrong – Sylvaneth: No list submitted, sadly!

• 5th – Kiel Skriver – Fyreslayers: A Lofnir list pretty much how GW probably imagined it. A Runesmiter on Magmadroth leading 5 Runesons on Magmadroths with no infantry ruining their good time.
• 6th – Dale Johnson – Gloomspite Gitz: See showdown
• 7th – Josh Steinhilber – Daughters of Khaine: Morathi and Bloodwrack medusa lead 10 Blood Stalkers and 25 Blood Sisters.
• 8th – Carson Sawatsky – Disciples of Tzeentch: Twin chickens in Kairos and Lord of Change with a Gaunt Summoner, Ogroid and Changecaster and some Screamers for Battleline.

Sooper Seekret Kastell Chon

Thoughts

DOK will have a bit of a hurdle here, since they aren’t so good at weathering blows, particularly fight on death. Lack of ranged attacks works against them here, forcing them to get into melee. That said they do have a lot of bodies and with Zealous Orator it’s possible to keep the numbers up and with Heart of Fury blunt the damage incoming.

Witch Aelf Spam

Thoughts

Daughters lists without Morathi are rare but certainly doable. Freeing up that 680 points allows you to field a lot of bodies and between the sisters of slaughter and Witch Aelves that’s 50 of them, and not to mention the 20 Blood Sisters! This list is a melee powerhouse with the buffs from the Gladiatrix and and Hag Queens. Not much in the way of teleport of Deep Strike but can tear through many threats nonetheless.

• 6th – Anthony Trentanelli – Blades of Khorne: Skarrbrand and a Bloodthirster with a Daemon Prince of Khorne leading Flesh Hounds and the Incarnate.

Wrap Up

Another bit of a slow week but some very interesting lists with a Morathi-less Daughters of Khaine and Gitz vs. Skaven for another tournament. The Krondspine’s influence seems to be dropping slowly and with the Battlescroll on the horizon we may finally see its death knell.
