Hypercrypt Goodstuff

Thoughts

Hypercrypt have settled into a groove of late, with Monolith anchored shenanigans, C’tan and Destroyers that can exploit angles all game if played carefully. I really like the inclusion of Imotekh here- HC is very CP hungry, so having additional resources coming in is very handy and frees you up to take fixed if so minded as well. Congratulations on the win!

Hypercrypt Go-Wide

Thoughts

What do you get if you opt out of the Monolith build for Hypercrypt? Loads of stuff! Doomsday Arks can offer decent shooting at range and losing one isn’t as fatal as a Monolith going down can be. Otherwise this is largely more of the same- Destroyers, C’tan, and antics to keep the opponent under pressure and dance around scoring for fun. Very well done on the top placing.

Votann Triple Fort

Thoughts

The Leagues of Votann take it to a Hekaton place here, with triple Forts and lots of Hearthguard for strolling into the midboard. This is highly durable as builds go, with an awful lot of 2+ save and -1 AP on offer. The output on Forts is swingy (Conversion Beamers tend to either go big or go home), but they’re tough enough that you can typically weather the opponent for quite some time and a few of our meta menaces lack the guns to deal with them consistently at range (Grey Knights especially!). Awesome to see the Kyn continuing to thrive, well done.

Grey Knight Vehicle Spam

Thoughts

Another placing for a Vehicle skew version of Grey Knights, that packs in armoured targets with decent mobility and bodies the opponent off the board. Canis Rex and the Redeemer both contribute further to the general 2+ spam vibes here, and are harder to remove, forcing commitment that the Dreadknights can then capitalise on and counter-attack. A very potent build, well done on the top placing!

The Best of the Rest

There were 10 more players on 4-1 records. They were:

  • 5th – Jonathan Sleigh-johnson – Black Templars: Gladius Mixed Arms Black Templars
  • 6th – Joel Larsson – Chaos Daemons: A hybrid build exploiting monster mash AND Rendmaster / Khorne Daemon shenanigans.
  • 7th – André Persson – World Eaters: Vanella style World Eaters with Eightbound, Angron and Berzerkers.
  • 8th – Max Nilsson – Necrons: Double Monolith Hypercrypt!
  • 9th – Axel Rydén – Aeldari: Yncarne / MSU Aeldari.
  • 10th – Mathias Eliasson – Aeldari: Wraithknight / MSU Eldar with a block of Shroudrunners.

  • 12th – Mattias Lindvall-Östling – Necrons: Monolith / C’tan Hypercrypt.
  • 13th – Ludvig Advin – Orks: Squighog Pressure with 20 Kommandos, epic.

Astra Militarum Mixed Arms

Thoughts

Some interesting alterations in this Guard list, which still packs the core units we have seen doing well lately but finds room for some flavour pieces too. A big stack of Rough Riders can threaten a counter charge of an Ingress push-threat as required, and Scions are very effective little drop units as well. Writing this with the benefit of hindsight on the dataslate, some of these options are looking at the more tasty now! Very well done on the event win.

It’s lots of Custodes infantry. Not an awful lot more to be said about it at this stage really! Very well done on the top placing.

Double Stormraven Ironstorm

Thoughts

The Stormraven sucker punch gets a run out here with two for maximum violence. Redemptors are a solid options as passengers and give the opponent a real handful to deal with as the rest of the guns go to work. Azrael continues his internship with the Iron Hands, I’m really excited to read the Black Library book where he stands chatting with some Techmarines for 300 pages… Very well done on the top placing!

Necrons Mixed Arms

Thoughts

An interesting run out for the Awakened Dynasty Necrons, who may emerge from the slate as a more appealing option once more. Lychguard are back in here, and Doomscythes provide some serious hard target removal. I really like the overall balance of this list and its cool to see something different being tried! Very well done on the top placing.

The Best of the Rest

There were 6 more players on 4-1 records. They were:

  • 5th – Sebastien Geoffrion – Dark Angels: Dark Angels double Stormraven Ironstorm.

  • 7th – Jeremie Maranda- Blood Angels: An intriguing mixed arms Firestorm Blood Angels list with Redeemer, Repulsor, and lots of infantry.
  • 8th – Éric Marcoux – Grey Knights: Grey Knights vehicle spam – Helverins edition.
  • 9th – Alex Grégoire – Leagues of Votann: Votann Goodstuff with HG, Sagitaurs and a Land Fort.

Canoptek Court Goodstuff

Thoughts

Another triumph for the meta monster that is Canoptek Court. Wraiths and C’tan require horrendous energy to kill, Doomstalkers slap as a control piece in CC, and there is just enough utility (and with Imotekh, CP support) to keep this build singing as it gets to work on bodying the primary. Really well done on the event win.

The Best of the Rest

There were 8 more players on 4-1 records. They were:

  • 2nd – Manuel “BEL” Wieczorek – Blood Angels (Ironstorm Spearhead): Ironstorm BA with Reapers and Predators backing up a Death Company punch.
  • 3rd – Sebastian Maack – Black Templars (Righteous Crusaders): Righteous Crusaders Templars with a Terminator brick, Eradicators and plenty of melee.

  • 6th – Hadi Ghani – Adeptus Custodes: Mixed Arms Custodes with double Caladius.

  • 8th – Oliver Ötting – Grey Knights: Triple Libby / Lots of Dreadknights GK.
  • 9th – Felix Haak – Tyranids: Invasion Fleet with triple Maleceptor and lots of utility.

Astra Militarum Goodstuff

Thoughts

Another strong guard showing here, with most of the usual suspects, and a particular brutal slab of Bullgryn for brawling. Rough Riders once again make an appearance as an incision piece that all serves to keep the enemy in front of the guns and buy you the time that you need. Very well done on the event win!

The Best of the Rest

There were 5 more players on 4-1 records. They were:

  • 2nd – Are Belsaas – Necrons (Canoptek Court): Canoptek Court Goodstuff.
  • 3rd – Geir Dutta – Aeldari (Battle Host): A very fun Eldar / Halequins mix with Fuegan, Baharroth and Yvraine getting stuck in.
  • 4th – Alexander Bæra – World Eaters (Berzerker Warband): Berzerker heavy World Eaters with plenty of the usual punch in support.
  • 5th – Lasse Tilrem – Necrons: Massed Wraiths in Awakened Dynasty.
  • 6th – Harald Arnljot Kleiven- Astra Militarum: Shadowsword Guard, absolutely epic.

Nemesis 40k Spring 2024

Hypercrypt Gun Show

Thoughts

Most HC lists are choosing between Doomsday Arks and a Monolith for the ranged heavy hitting. Why not both eh? This build punches extremely hard and still had more than enough utility to score like a dream. Imotekh continues his excellent week as a support piece here as well, love to see it. Really well done on the win!

The Best of the Rest

There were 4 more players on 4-1 records. They were:

  • 2nd – Josh Stapleton – Adepta Sororitas (Hallowed Martyrs): Mixed Arms Sisters that packs two Exorcists alongside the Castigators.
  • 3rd – Kieren Trimbee – Genestealer Cult (Ascension Day): An epic 20 Aberrant GSC build, amazing.
  • 4th – Jonah Sinclair – Astra Militarum (Combined Regiment): Massed tank Guard with no indirect, awesome.
  • 5th – Ryan Mcleod – Leagues of Votann: Triple Fort / Triple Sagitaur Votann.

Grand Tournament of Contempt

Matchup & Mission – Adeptas Sororitas versus Thousand Sons

Christian Matschke – Adepta Sororitas (Hallowed Martyrs)

vs.

Christian Breuer – Thousand Sons (Cult of Magic)
Army List - Click to Expand

Thoughts

An interesting match up the nature of which has shifted somewhat as the game adapts around both of the armies in question. Sisters have moved away from artillery and some of their more potent anti-psyker tech in recent times as Eldar fade into the background. They have a lot more honest shooting these days, but still punch hard with decent reach from the Arcos and Jump Pack nuns. Thousand Sons by contrast have doubled down on what was previously working – loads of Rubrics and characters, with an increasing emphasis on blocking chaff, yeeted forward with Temporal Surge early in the game to frustrate the enemy as they close on them.

I think the alterations give Tsons the edge in a match up that was previously brutal for them – anti psyker tech causes a lot of headaches as do Exorcists but there simply isnt as much output coming from these quarters now. For all their power Sisters are slow, and if you can block and annihilate the pressure units early the rest will quickly fall apart once Magnus starts doing his thing. It will take time, but Tsons have the raw output and tricks to grind out the win, and that seems to be what went down here!

Thousand Sons Goodstuff

Thoughts

A triumph for the Thousand Sons, who are sitting pretty after a dataslate that didn’t really impact them and hurt several of their rivals. Tonnes of mortal wound output, just enough utility to scam the opponent in the early game and tick off the cards, and an incredible go-turn at close range. Tsons can collapse if things go awry very easily, but when they get to do their thing there isn’t much that can withstand them. Very well done on the even win!

The Best of the Rest

There were 5 more players on 4-1 records. They were:

  • 2nd – Bastian Kry – Astra Militarum (Combined Regiment): Artillery / Kasrkin / Bullgryn Guard.
  • 3rd – Christian Matschke – Adepta Sororitas (Hallowed Martyrs): The Sisters list from the Showdown.
  • 4th – Lucia Linke – Grey Knights (Teleport Strike Force): Triple Librarian / Dreadknight / Redeemer GK.
  • 5th – Florian Schmidt – Aeldari: Massed Reapers and Skyweavers in this anti-tank and chaff Eldar list.
  • 6th – Ruben Paul Goldmann – World Eaters: Vanella style World Eaters rush.

Wrap Up

That’s it for this week folks! The slate is with us now, and the meta game should warp a little bit accordingly. It feels like a very interesting time with Orks in particular dropping into an adjusting field, and I’m excited to see what comes next. Be well out there!

Lowest of Men, out.
