Egyptian Knights

Thoughts

Hypercrypt big boy time – has 10th been the best ever edition for jamming huge Monsters and Vehicles on the table? I think it might just have been you know. The mobility of Hypercrypt means you’re never truly safe from this dizzying array of guns, and pushing into it to tag everything gets all the more dangerous with the Silent King lurking ready to bop things. His aura feels extremely relevant in a world of Dark Angels and Armour of Contempt equivalents, and this list really slaps. Fantastic work on the event win.

Ad Mech Rushstalkers

Thoughts

Glorious scoring trash Ad Mech in Hunter Cohort – a very genuine force in the meta at large right now played right. This list has a massive counter punch of Ruststalkers ready to take advantage of the improved Ad Mech melee buffs, and some Disintegrators to keep sneaky opponents honest, which is definitely something Ad Mech can otherwise struggle with. On top of that, it just has SO MUCH STUFF. Impressive work on the top placing!

Silver Tide Hypercrypt

Thoughts

The internal balance of the Necron codex may have collapsed like a late-stage Soviet Union after the last slate, but there are pockets of diversity to be found within the many, many Hypercrypt lists themselves. This version leans into Necron Warriors, not seen as much these days, but an absolute nightmare when combined with the 3 inch deep striking shenanigans of the detachment. All those janky combos you’ve just chatted with your mates about re Tempestus Aquilons? They work here too. Get creative, win games. Amazing work on the top placing!

Rogal Dorn and Scions Guard

Thoughts

If you’re wondering how Guard will cope post-Dataslate, the answer is fine. This strong showing packs in stuff you really don’t see in a lot of the more Bullgryn centric builds- triple Dorn throws down firepower from very durable chassis, and the big Scions squad are a nightmare from the opponent dropping in from Rapid Ingress and threatening unexpected volleys of overwatch. All in all, a very potent and effective build with plenty of good targets for the Reinforcements Stratagem, you love to see it.

The Best of the Rest

There were 8 more players on 5-1 records. They were:

  • 5th – Kyle McCord – Dark Angels (Gladius Task Force): Shooting heavy Dark Angels with Gladiator Lancers and a Redeemer alongside the Deathwing Knights.
  • 6th – James Willet – Astra Militarum: Bullgryn and Leman Russ Astra Militarum.
  • 7th – John Teets – Black Templars (Righteous Crusaders): Mixed Arms Black Templars with some gun tanks bringing up the rear.

Custodes Mixed Arms

Thoughts

Custodes truck on despite a general downturn in fortunes since their codex, mostly propped up by the enduring power of the Caladius Grav Tank. This beauty can outshoot most of its peers in the support tank community at distance, which gives you an in. Immaculate play with your limited other assets is crucial, as is getting the most from your advance and charge go-turns with your larger bricks. Winning an event with Custodes at the moment is no easy thing, very well done.

The Best of the Rest

There were 5 more players on 4-1 records. They were:

  • 2nd – Pontus Koch – Space Marines (Astartes) (Gladius Task Force): Ultramarines Gladius with multiple Company Heroes squads, I love it.
  • 3rd – Rickard Stormhammar – Adeptus Mechanicus (Skitarii Hunter Cohort): Hunter Cohort with 30 Sulphurhounds – yikes!
  • 4th – Max Persson – Adepta Sororitas (Bringers of Flame): Vahl and Paragon inspired Brings of Flame Goodstuff.
  • 5th – Erik Larsson – World Eaters: No Angron, just an absolute truckload of Eightbound and aggression.
  • 6th – Johannes Einemo – Adeptus Mechanicus (Skitarii Hunter Cohort): Massed Vanguard, Pteraxii and Ruststalkers.

Traunsteincup

34-player, 5-round Grand Tournament in Vorchdorf, Oberösterreich, Österreich on September 28 2024. All the lists for this event can be found in Best Coast Pairings.

Black Templars Ironstorm

Thoughts

A rare sighting of the previous meta heavyweight that was Black Templars Ironstorm. Loads of guns, loads of tanks, and a lot of assets to body the primary with. Triple Gladiator Reaper certainly is a mood that sends shivers down my spine. Vindicators turning up here too as they continue to test my theory of ‘is any army that can take Vindicators stupid for not just taking some Vindicators?’. Really well done on the event win!

The Best of the Rest

There were 4 more players on 4-1 records. They were:

  • 2nd – Sam Nowrouzi – Necrons (Awakened Dynasty): Dynasty Wraith brick and Destroyer spam.
  • 3rd – Fabian Huber – Thousand Sons (Cult of Magic): Triple Vortex Beast Tsons.
  • 4th – Sebastian Kipling – Drukhari (Skysplinter Assault): Double Voidraven Skysplinter with Urien Rakarth in there too.
  • 5th – Norbert Klima – Leagues of Votann: Mixed arms Sagitaur and Fort Votann.

Wytch Trials 2 Heretic’s Revenge

29-player, 5-round Grand Tournament in Winston-Salem, NC, United States on September 28 2024. All the lists for this event can be found in Best Coast Pairings.

I’m having a Crisis

Thoughts

Say yes to Crisis Suits. Glorious full on Crisis death here with Ret Cadre ensuring it can pick its targets and then fire and fade OC to cause mayhem in the enemy lines. Stealtsuits, Riptides and a Ghostkeel anchor the backline and Midboard, and the suits get to work. I am quietly relieved that Crisis have been brought back to life, and in such a dynamic and interesting build too! Great work on the event win.

The Best of the Rest

There were 4 more players on 4-1 records. They were:

  • 2nd – Nathan Macintyre – Necrons (Hypercrypt Legion): Triple Hexmark / Triple Doomsday Ark Hypercrypt.
  • 3rd – Christian Howard – Necrons (Hypercrypt Legion): Tesseract Vault Hypercrypt.
  • 4th – Logan Funderburk – Chaos Daemons (Daemonic Incursion): Massed Khorne Daemons makes this a 4-0 top placings for uppy downy, 3 inch deep striking armies!
  • 5th – Dean Prichard – Tyranids (Synaptic Nexus): Old One Eye and Zoanthropes in Synaptic Nexus.

The Ninja Hobo’s Extravaganza

28-player, 5-round Grand Tournament in Northern Ireland, United Kingdom on September 28 2024. All the lists for this event can be found in Best Coast Pairings.

Templar Horde Lite

Thoughts

A stripped back version of the Templar Horde from WTC, with some concessions to other useful tools like anti-tank, staging transports, and a full on hammer unit in the Sword Brethren. If this army connects into, and then traps you, life comes at you real fast from then on out. A beautiful force in the meta game that still hasn’t broken out quite as much as might have been expected, well done on the event win.

The Best of the Rest

There were 4 more players on 4-1+ records. They were:

  • 2nd (4.5-0.5) – Mark Morrow – Necrons (Hypercrypt Legion): Double Monolith Hypercrypt.
  • 3rd (4.5-0.5) – Hugh Mc Cluskey – Grey Knights (Teleport Strike Force): Mixed arms GK with Dreadknights and MSU.
  • 4th – Aidan “BANEBLADE” Lee – Imperial Agents (Imperialis Fleet): Imperial Agents trash carpet with a big knight in support.
  • 5th – Malachy McCrudden – Chaos Knights: War Dog spam with some well chosen Daemon allies including Seekers for scout.

Wrap Up

There we have it folks! Warhammer – still very much a game being played an awful lot. Starting to get that dataslate itch now, as I am sure many of you are, but in the meantime a tonne of different factions can succeed and thrive, you love to see it. Catch you all again next time.

Lowest of Men, out.
