It’s been a wild second year for the Unified Tournament Circuit – this year we had tournament organizers join from all over the east coast of the United States and Canada, plus the Lord Marshal’s Conference in the Midwest. Over the last year we’ve registered 272 events for Warhammer 40k, 69 for Kill Team, and 56 for Age of Sigmar. And with the season wrapping this past weekend, it’s time to announce the finals.
This year, we’re changing things up – starting this year, the UTC finals for each game system will be held at a different member store, and change on a rotating basis annually. We’re doing this both because it better aligns with our goal of supporting local stores and because after last year’s event we felt it didn’t make much sense to have the events at the same location anyways – the players weren’t interacting meaningfully and didn’t get anything out of it, while it made the events harder for the store to host.
So this year we’re happy to announce that we’ll be splitting up those events.
The Invitational Format
As with last year, this year’s finals will be a series of 32-player Invitational events. If you’re currently in the top 32 of the UTC for Warhammer 40k, Kill Team, or Age of Sigmar, you’ll be receiving an invite in the next week to the relevant event. And if you’re not in the top 32 but in the top 50, well hold tight, as we’ll be reaching out to you if one of the top 32 can’t make it, and so on until we’ve filled all 32 player slots.
You can find the current standings for each game on the UTC website. The current standings represent the final standings for the year.
The Prizes
As with last year, we’re applying for WCW ticket support from Games Workshop for the events. On top of that, Goonhammer is proud to announce that we’re once again pledging cash prize support for the event – $2,000 in cash prizes for Warhammer 40k and $1,500 each for Kill Team and Age of Sigmar.
The Warhammer 40k Finals
First off, we’d like to congratulate John Winter Russell for finishing first in total score at the end of the season. John’s run included a win at the CCBB singles event, the Ottawa Winter Open, the 2024 Grand Clash, and the November Blackshield Tournament. If there were a President’s Trophy for the UTC, he’d have won it. John’s finish tops a run of Canadian dominance at the top of the UTC, with Canadians grabbing the top four spots – Jeremy Atkinson, Ridvan Martinez, and Logan Antonation filled out the next three spots, with TJ Lanigan coming in fifth.
The Warhammer 40k Finals will be a five-round, 32-player Invitational event held on February 1st and 2nd, 2025 at Fabricator’s Forge in Pittsburgh, PA.
The Kill Team Finals
In a similar vein, we’d like to congratulate Dylan Gill for finishing first in our standings for the Kill Team Circuit. Dylan edged out Jonathan Reynolds and 2023 ITC champion Adrian Bonvento for the top spot at the end of our season.
The Kill Team Finals will be a five-round 32-player invitational event held on February 8th-9th, 2025 at the Brooklyn Strategist in Brooklyn, NYC.
The Age of Sigmar Finals
Last but not least, we’d like to congratulate Matthew Obringer for finishing first in the standings for Age of Sigmar. Matthew’s six-event run includes strong showings at the Palladium Games GT in October, the Battle to End Alzheimers in March, and the Really Really Good GT in May. Additional nods are in order for Jacob Brandon, Rye Anderson, and Blen Klos, who rounded out the top four.
We’re currently still finalizing the venue for Age of Sigmar, so stay tuned for an announcement there.
We’d like to thank the UTC Tournament Organizers on another fantastic season. It’s been a great year and we’re excited to see how things pan out for the finals. If you’re in the top 32 and don’t have an invite, sit tight – we’ll be working to get them your way in the next week.
