Administratum – Orks and Skeletons – A Match Made in the War in Heaven?

Come in, come in. Don’t mind the dust, it’s just ash from the code mines. Probably. Could be loose bone powder. Same thing, really.

Kick those feet up -ah, not there. Sorry, that’s actually what I wanted to show you. What is it? Why, it’s a long-awaited post about Administratum! Let me roll it out for you.

It’s no secret that Warhammer 40k is releasing codexes left and right. Tallies and requisitions and bears, oh my! With that release schedule, Administratum has fallen behind. Sorry about that! I’d love to blame this on Gregbot, so I’m going to. Please direct your hate mail to the nearest unnaturally dark shadow, 50/50 odds Gregbot is hiding there.

Though we’re a bit behind, we’ve still been rolling out updates. However, we’ve been failing the #1 rule of the internet: Just Post. So let’s fix that!

Codex: Orks Add-On

Oi! Whoz up for some krumpin? Track yer Stompin’ Points, git sum Bestbest Bossloot wit dis add-on for yer Roster. And above all else, waaagh.

Not pictured: Punch Rockgroin, Stomp Chunkman, and Buff Hardback

Did I say waaagh? Sorry, meant to say WAAAGH!

WAAAAAAGH!

Early Access Add-Ons

Our amazing Patrons may have spotted all sorts of Early Access add-ons available to them. Just what are these?

Piping hot code, fresh from the oven.

These are early versions of add-ons that I’ve been colloquially referring to as “skeletons.” Partially because the grim grip of death embraces us all, but mostly because these are add-ons you can install right now, and get access to RP tracking for requisitions. As we implement the rest of the add-on, the new mechanics and widgets will automatically show up in your roster! And thus the name “skeletons” – the mechanics of the add-on will grow outward from the skeleton, the very same way that your flesh grows outwards from your bones.

Note: I don’t understand biology, and I will not learn.

Top Men

Early Access add-ons include early access requisitions for quickly spending your RP. Note that while these requisitions are in early-access, they only adjust your RP. If the requisition says it increases your gubbin count of doohickey tally, then please respect your fellow players and update your doohickies in private. No one wants to see that. Or your gubbin, please.

As of this writing, the most detailed skeleton so far is for Codex: Chaos Space Marines. If you’re playing the Heretic Astartes, you can enable this add-on to get trackers for the three Glory types added to your Dashboard, plus the option to select a Warband Champion.

The Requisitions have been implemented but as with the other skeletons, you’ll still need to make manual adjustments to glory and do everything the Requisitions detail manually.

Advanced Unit Options

The Settings tab for your units has received a significant overhaul. Under the hood, Administratum tracks all sorts of information about your units. And this update brings all that information to the surface. The settings tab is broken into two sections: Basic Settings and Crusade Settings.

Settings set to “Organized”

Basic Settings are, as you can imagine, pretty basic: name and description. The real magic is in the Crusade Settings. You got your standard model counts and keywords, sure. But you now also have access to all sorts of variables that Administratum uses to show alerts and notifications about your units: Unclaimed Battle Honours, Scars, and Requisitions.

Mmm, variables

You can adjust these to manually override changes in your roster that Administratum didn’t get quite right, or to account for campaign-specific events. The owner of your campaign can even go here to manually grant rewards to your units for notable accomplishments!

General Improvements

I try to make a note of all the random bits and bobs that I improve across the site, but I’ve lost track. Some of them are updating the Roster and Campaigns pages to be more responsive, performance improvements on basically every network request, making UI elements more consistent, drastically reducing copy-pasted code by properly refactoring stuff into components, and building a new data catalog feature which we’ll be using for future Goonhammer projects.

There’s a lot of stuff, and in case you want the nitty gritty, these patch notes are a mostly accurate summary!

We’re in the final couple weeks before Games Workshop’s 2024 Grand Narrative. I’m frantically working to get as much cool stuff crammed into Administratum as possible. But there’s so, so much to do. And that’s not even including painting my own army. If you want to see me melt down in real-time, join our Patreon and hop into our Discord server. It’s definitely a real thing, and definitely not a figment of my sleep-deprived imagination. Definitely.
