The first ever World Championships of Warhammer are this week and we couldn’t be more excited. As part of our event coverage, we’re interviewing competitors from around the world about how they secured an invite, their plans for the event, and what they’re hoping to accomplish.
Competitor Profile
Player name: Nassim Fouchane
Age: 23
Country of Origin: England
Where you won your ticket: Adepticon
Let’s start with the basics. What army are you bringing to the World Championships, and why did you choose them?
Blood Angels in the Ironstorm detachment as you’re able to leverage some of the more powerful marine unit datasheets via Baal Predators and Death Company and combine them in the strongest output detachment.

Run us through your list a little bit. What made you choose this list, and why do you enjoy playing it?
So a big reason why I took this list is because I’ve always been a meta marine player and when I saw I had the opportunity to play Blood Angels (my favourite chapter alongside Ironhands) I couldn’t let go of the opportunity. It has everything a player can ask for, indirect, melee, flyers, and combat shenanigans, whats there to hate? I especially really enjoy the way my opponents are confused by the list which then leads to them finding out usually turn 2 or 3.
What does the list do well against? What match-ups are you hoping to avoid?
I’d love nothing more but to play vs CSM and Eldar all event, but really I’m happy to pay vs anything. A big part of when I wrote the list initially alongside my partner is war-crime innes was that we would have a game into any army in the meta and game.
Fixed or Tactical?
Flexible. Army is fast enough to do tactical, but who doesn’t like fixed.
The World Championships of Warhammer isn’t the largest event ever, but it’s certainly the first of its kind. What was your road getting to the event like? Was it something you were aiming for?
Never really aimed for it, flew out to Adepticon to have some fun with mates and take a fuffy guard list, just didn’t know the meta there would be so soft to let a random brit take their lunch money so easily.
How does it feel to be going to the event? Are you nervous? Excited? How does it compare to LVO?
Definitely more excited and less nervous than LVO. As for one, I feel less at the mercy of the random sets of player-placed terrain which doesn’t always get the best rep. But I actually like GW boards, I guess it’s better to say I prefer standardised terrain as you can plan better so I’m not really that nervous, just excited for the event and to see everyone.
How do you feel about the event’s unique country-based scoring? Does it add excitement to later rounds for you?
Didn’t know it really existed but it’s just another way of giving England another trophy right?
*insert mandatory chant*
ENGERLENNDDDDDD
How do you expect the competition to be different from other events? Is there anything you’re doing differently to prepare?
I’m definitely preparing for the event in the same way I prep for LGT and any other UK super major. Assume everyone is good, take a list people won’t really see in the meta that’s good and can play into anyone.
How do you expect you’ll do at the event? What’s a “good event” look like for you, record-wise?
Going positive would be a good event, but a great event would be winning pod and the whole thing, thats great. So the answer is 8-0 (or however many rounds there are)
How do you feel about 10th edition competitive play heading into this event? How does the meta feel to you right now?
It feels the best its been since 10th dropped; still need tweaks to a few armies across the board, not just CSM and Aeldari, but a few armies are also quite busted but flying under the radar since those 2 armies are so dominant.
You’re currently still in the hunt for the ITC crown this year, and this event could replace one of your scores. How does that factor into your plans?
Between this and another super major I have a very real shot at taking the whole thing, but it will be close. After this, if I do well I should be top 3, but time will tell.
Thanks again for taking the time to answer our questions. Good luck at the event!
