While a lot of the discussion in our Competitive Innovations column and similar competitive-focused articles here at Goonhammer focuses on one-on-one matched play 40k, team events present new problems for players to solve and can lead to some unconventional factions and lists seeing significant play.
Each year, over 20 national teams attend the World Team Championships for 40k and compete against one another to see who can come out on top. And after wrapping up 2023’s WTC last month, the various teams are already making plans for next year.
Regular readers of the site may recognize “Warboss” Ben Jurek as a recurring character in Competitive Innovations, a fan of all things Orky, and an all-around swell guy. But what you might not know is that, alongside his many other accolades, he’s a member of the US National 40k Team, and he’s here today with an announcement as the team gears up for next year’s WTC. Take it away, Ben.
An announcement from the US National Warhammer 40,000 Team
We are excited to announce that the captaincy of the US National Warhammer 40k Team will now be governed by the US Wargaming Federation’s Warhammer 40k Committee!
We are accepting applications for the captaincy until September 17, 2023. Applications for candidates will open soon thereafter.
Learn more about the selection process and apply at https://uswargaming.org/.
That’s right boyz and galz. The US team has been hard at work putting together a new selection process for its captain and for candidates for the national team, along with a new charter for team membership. The US has a giant pool of talent to pull from and this is a great opportunity for anyone who’s interested in applying for the team.
I loved my time at WTC even as a non-playing member of the US team. The experience from A-Z was top notch and I’ll never forget it. I lived an amazing experience and I came out a better person and player on the other side. I’m super excited to see what this new chapter in US 40k brings.
Follow the US National Warhammer 40k Team on Facebook for more announcements. And if you’re interested in applying to join the team, don’t worry: candidate applications will be open soon!
Thanks as always to Ben for stopping by. If you’re interested in applying for the US National 40k Team, check out their website.
